The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 8:36 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Robert Bouchard, Blaine Calkins, Rick Casson, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn and Hon. Joe McGuire.

 

Acting Members present: Rodger Cuzner for Wajid Khan and Hon. John McCallum for John Cannis.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget to support the Committee's travel as part of its study of Canadian Forces in Afghanistan in the amount of $155,977 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to the motion adopted Tuesday, May 16, 2006, and in relation to its study on the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan, the Standing Committee on National Defence travel to Afghanistan in September or October 2006; that the said Committee be composed of three Conservative members, one Bloc Québécois member, one NDP member and three Liberal members; and that the necessary staff do accompany the Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, after consultation with the vice-chairs and critics, be authorized to finalize and to approve the itinerary for the trip to Afghanistan.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk be authorized to arrange for receptions as appropriate in Kandahar and Kabul, and that the total cost of such hospitality not exceed $800.

 

At 9:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
