The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Dawn Black, Steven Blaney, Robert Bouchard, Rick Casson, Cheryl Gallant and Russ Hiebert.

 

Acting Members present: Blaine Calkins for Laurie Hawn, Hon. Denis Coderre for Hon. Joe McGuire and Hon. Lawrence MacAulay for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; Wolf Koerner, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the fourth report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

In accordance with its mandate pursuant to Order made May 9, 2006, your Subcommittee has considered the question of the future business of the Committee.

Notwithstanding the Committee’s concurrence in the first report of its Subcommittee on May 16, 2006, the Subcommittee recommends that the Committee undertake studies of the following with priority given as suggested by their order:

procurement process including the tendering process and the establishment of capability requirements;

continental defence in the context of the evolving relationship between NORAD, NORTHCOM and Canada Command; and

quality of life for members of the Canadian Forces and their families.

A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings (Meeting No. 4) is tabled.

 

It was agreed, — That a total of eight meetings be allocated to the study of the procurement process including the tendering process and the establishment of capability requirements.

 

At 4:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
