The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:31 this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Paule Brunelle, Colin Carrie, Brian Masse, Hon. Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Bev Shipley, Dave Van Kesteren and Robert Vincent.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Geoff Regan for Hon. Scott Brison and Scott Simms for Hon. Gerry Byrne.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Natural Resources: Howard E. Brown, Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy Policy Sector; Philip Jennings, Director General, Petroleum Resources Branch. Department of Industry: Sheridan Scott, Commissioner of Competition, Competition Bureau; Richard Taylor, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Competition Bureau, Civil Matters Branch. Department of Finance: Lise Potvin, Director, Sales Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch; Geoff Trueman, Chief, Air Travelers Security Charge, Sales Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch; Sandy MacLaren, Senior Economist, Economic Development and Corporate Finance Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 14, 2007, the Committee commenced its study of Gas Prices and Refinery Margins.
 

Sheridan Scott made a statement and, with Richard Taylor, answered questions.

 

At 4:32 , the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 , the sitting resumed.

 

Lise Potvin and Philip Jennings made statements and, with the other witnesses from the Department of Finance and the Department of Natural Resources, answered questions.

 

At 5:40 , the sitting was suspended.

At 5:45 , the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on March 21, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of Counterfeiting and Piracy of Intellectual Property.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of the Summary of Evidence / Issues and Options Paper.

 

At 6:33 , the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
