The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 3:45 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Hon. Scott Brison, Paule Brunelle, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Colin Carrie, Brian Masse, Hon. Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Bev Shipley and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Claude Bachand for Robert Vincent, Sukh Dhaliwal for Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Yvon Godin for Brian Masse, Marcel Lussier for Robert Vincent and Glen Douglas Pearson for Hon. Gerry Byrne.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst; Tyler Kustra, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2007-2008: Votes 1, 5 and 10 under ATLANTIC CANADA OPPORTUNITIES AGENCY, Votes 1 and 5 under ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF CANADA FOR THE REGIONS OF QUEBEC, Votes 1, 5, 10, L15, L20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90 and 95 under INDUSTRY, Votes 1 and 5 under WESTERN ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 27, 2007.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:54 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology begin study of the Investment Canada Act, as its next Order of business to begin Monday, September 17, 2007.

 

At 6:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
