The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Hon. Scott Brison, Paule Brunelle, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Colin Carrie, Brian Masse, Hon. Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Bev Shipley, Dave Van Kesteren and Robert Vincent.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Susan Bincoletto, Director General, Marketplace Framework Policy Branch. Department of Canadian Heritage: Danielle Bouvet, Director, Legislative and International Projects, Copyright Policy Branch. Department of Health: Diana Dowthwaite, Director General, Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Douglas George, Director, Intellectual Property, Information and Technology Trade Policy Division. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Ken Hansen, Superintendent, Director, Federal Enforcement Branch. Canada Border Services Agency: Steve Sloan, Director, Investigations Division, Enforcement Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Committee proceeded to the election of a Vice-Chair.
 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Vice-Chair.

 

On motion of Robert Vincent, it was agreed, — That Paule Brunelle be elected second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on March 21, 2007, the Committee commenced its study of Counterfeiting and Piracy of Intellectual Property.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
