The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in camera at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Hon. Scott Brison, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Colin Carrie, Paul Crête, Brian Masse, Hon. Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Bev Shipley, Dave Van Kesteren and Robert Vincent.

 

Acting Members present: David Christopherson for Brian Masse, Sukh Dhaliwal for Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua and Daniel Petit for Colin Carrie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the deregulation of telecommunications.
 

At 4:09 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 4:53 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:16 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in public.

 
At 5:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee resumed sitting in public.

 

Gerry Byrne moved, — That the Committee report to the House recommending that the Minister of Industry withdraw the order varying Telecom Decision CRTC 2006-15 and table in Parliament a comprehensive package of policy, statutory and regulatory reforms to modernize the telecommunications services industry.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Daniel Petit moved, — That the Committee do now adjourn.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 7.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Gerry Byrne, — That the Committee report to the House recommending that the Minister of Industry withdraw the order varying Telecom Decision CRTC 2006-15 and table in Parliament a comprehensive package of policy, statutory and regulatory reforms to modernize the telecommunications services industry.

The debate continued.

 

Dave Van Kesteren moved, — That the Committee do now adjourn.
