The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Colin Carrie, Paul Crête, Susan Kadis, Hon. Jean C. Lapierre, James Rajotte, Bev Shipley, Hon. Belinda Stronach, Dave Van Kesteren and Robert Vincent.

 

Acting Members present: Charlie Angus for Brian Masse.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (International Trade): Ian Burney, Chief Trade Negotiator, Bilateral and Regional. Canadian Association of Railway Suppliers: Glen Fisher, Board of Directors. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (International Trade): Kendal Hembroff, Deputy Director, Bilateral Market Access Division; Marvin Hildebrand, Director, Bilateral Market Access Division; Cam Mackay, Deputy Director, Regional Trade Policy. Canadian Association of Railway Suppliers: Jay Nordenstrom, Director of Government and Industry Affairs; Rachel Pereira, Associate Director of Industry Affairs. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (International Trade): David Plunkett, Director General, Bilateral and Regional Trade Policy.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Challenges Facing the Canadian Manufacturing Sector.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Robert Vincent moved, — That the Committee invite the National Research Council Canada to hold, as soon as possible, an annual information session on Parliament Hill to inform parliamentarians of the services they provide.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Colin Carrie moved, — That the motion be amended by deleting the word “annual”.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Colin Carrie and it was agreed to.

 

By unanimous consent, after debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

 

At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
