The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:26 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Colin Carrie, Paul Crête, Susan Kadis, Hon. Jean C. Lapierre, Brian Masse, Hon. Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Bev Shipley, Hon. Belinda Stronach and Robert Vincent.

 

Acting Members present: Jeff Watson for Dave Van Kesteren.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Richard Dicerni, Deputy Minister; Carole Swan, Senior Associate Deputy Minister; Tom Wright, Assistant Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion agreed to by the Committee on September 26, 2006 the Committee commenced its study of the budgets cuts annonced on September 25, 2006.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Dan McTeague, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

At 4:56 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:58 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee resume its study of Challenges Facing the Canadian Manufacturing Sector.

 

It was agreed, — That representatives of the following organisations be invited to appear in relation to the study on Challenges Facing the Canadian Manufacturing Sector:

It was agreed, — That the Committee study the policy direction to the CRTC; that, in relation to the study, the Committee hold one meeting during the week of Monday, October 16, 2006 to hear witnesses; and that the timing and scheduling of the meeting be at the discretion of the Chair.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold one meeting in relation to its study of the Main Estimates 2006-2007; that the Minister of Industry Canada be invited to appear; and that officials be invited to accompany the minister in relation to the Canadian Tourism Commission and the Canadian Space Policy.

 

At 5:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
