The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Bonnie Brown, Hon. Brenda Chamberlain, Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Hon. Ken Dryden, Rick Dykstra, Steven John Fletcher, Christiane Gagnon, Rob Merrifield and Penny Priddy.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Christiane Gagnon moved, — Whereas the federal government announced on November 18, 2005 that a Memorandum of Understanding had been signed with the legal representatives for individuals infected with the Hepatitis C Virus through the blood system before 1986 and after July 1, 1990;

It is moved that the Standing Committee on Health call the Health Minister in order to apprise the members of the Committee and the Canadian public of the state of negotiations regarding this Memorandum of Understanding.

 

Bonnie Brown moved, — That the motion be amended by adding at the end of the second paragraph the following: “;as well as to discuss other issues, should time permit.”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Bonnie Brown and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 3.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

At 11:29 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:37 a.m., the sitting resumed sitting in camera.

 

At 12:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
