The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Gerald Keddy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Raynald Blais, Rodger Cuzner, Randy Kamp, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Fabian Manning and Bill Matthews.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Carrier for Gérard Asselin and Scott Simms for Hon. Gerry Byrne.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Larry Murray, Deputy Minister; George Da Pont, Commissioner, Canadian Coast Guard; David Bevan, Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries and Aquaculture Management; Cal Hegge, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources and Corporate Services; Sue Kirby, Assistant Deputy Minister, Oceans and Habitat Sector; Sylvain Paradis, Director General, Ecosystem Science.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2006-2007: Votes 1a, 5a and 10a under FISHERIES AND OCEANS referred to the Committee on October 31, 2006.
 

The Chair calls Vote 1a under FISHERIES AND OCEANS.

 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk be authorized to make the necessary arrangements for a working lunch at the Parliamentary Restaurant following the meeting with the European delegation, on Thursday, November 23, 2006.

 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget for the Study on the Canadian Seal Hunt, in the amount of $11, 600, be adopted.

 

At 12:25 p.m., Bill Matthews took the Chair.

 

At 12:28 p.m., Gerald Keddy took the Chair.

 

At 12:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
