The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in a televised session at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Bob Mills, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Bernard Bigras, Nathan Cullen, Luc Harvey, Marcel Lussier, David J. McGuinty, Bob Mills, Hon. Geoff Regan, Anthony Rota, Maurice Vellacott and Mark Warawa.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. John Godfrey for Francis Scarpaleggia.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. John Baird, Minister of the Environment.

 

Witnesses: Department of the Environment: Basia Ruta, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer; Ian Shugart, Associate Deputy Minister.

 

The Committee agreed to proceed immediately to the consideration of its study of the Department's expenditure plans contained in the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2006-2007 and the effectiveness of their implementation, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2).

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on March 20, 2007, the Committee commenced its study of the Department's expenditure plans contained in the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2006-2007 and the effectiveness of their implementation.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
