The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 8:58 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Johanne Deschamps, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Raymonde Folco, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Preston for Nina Grewal, Robert Vincent for Meili Faille and Mike Wallace for Rahim Jaffer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jennifer Bird, Analyst; Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Campaign to Stop Secret Trials in Canada: Mona El-Fouli, Wife of Mohammad Mahjoub. Coalition Justice for Adil Charkaoui: Mary Foster, Member. Justice for Mohamed Harkat Committee: Christian Legeais, Campaign Manager. Amnesty International Canada: Alex Neve, Secretary General, English Speaking Section.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2006-2007: Votes 2a, 5a and 10a under the CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION referred to the Committee on Monday, October 30, 2006.
 

The Chair called Vote 2a under the DEPARTMENT OF CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION.

 

Vote 2a carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 5a under the DEPARTMENT OF CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION.

 

Vote 5a carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 10a under THE IMMIGRATION AND REFUGEE BOARD OF CANADA.

 

Vote 10a carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes 1a, 2a, 5a and 10a under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION to the House.

 

At 9:03 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:09 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 26, 2006, the Committee resumed its study on Detention Centers - Security Certificates.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:18 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
