The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell and Brian Storseth.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Gary Merasty.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Correctional Investigator: Howard Sapers, Correctional Investigator; Ed McIsaac, Executive Director. Cree-Naskapi Commission: Richard Saunders, Chairman; Philip Awashish, Commissioner; Robert Kanatewat, Commissioner; Brian Shawana, Director General.

 

On motion of Todd Norman Russell, it was agreed, — That the Clerk arrange for a working meal.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the Annual Report of the Office of the Correctional Investigator 2005-2006.
 

Howard Sapers made an opening statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 12:09 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:15 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the 2006 Report of the Cree-Naskapi Commission.
 

Richard Saunders, Robert Kanatewat and Philip Awashish made opening statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 1:09 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
