The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Steven Blaney, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Gary Merasty, Hon. Anita Neville and Todd Norman Russell.

 

Acting Members present: Brian Storseth for Inky Mark.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Tonina Simeone, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Jim Prentice, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Jim Quinn, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services; Suzanne Tining, Associate Deputy Minister; Michael Wernick, Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 L30, L35, 40 and 45 under INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT; Votes 85 and 90 under CANADIAN HERITAGE referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
 

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, L30, L35, 40, 45 under INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT and Votes 85 and 90 under CANADIAN HERITAGE.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
