The Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Ken Boshcoff, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Ken Boshcoff, Peter Julian, Carol Skelton and Robert Vincent.

 

Acting Members present: Russ Powers for Ruby Dhalla.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Technical Advisory Committee on Tax Measures for Persons with Disabilities: Robert D. Brown, Co-Chair; Sherri Torjman, Co-Chair.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, the Subcommittee commenced its study of the tax measures for persons with disabilities.
 

Robert Brown and Sherri Torjman made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:56 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:58 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee endorse the report on the disability tax fairness as an important first step for this Committee in addressing tax issues for disabled Canadians and recommends to the Finance Minister that the recommendations be implemented.

 

It was agreed, — That the following witnesses: the Speaker and the Clerk of the Senate and the House of Commons be invited to appear regarding issues related to accessibility for persons with disabilities within the Parliamentary Precinct.

 

At 5:21 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
