The Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Ken Boshcoff, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Ken Boshcoff, Ruby Dhalla, Carol Skelton and Robert Vincent.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, the Subcommittee resumed its study of issues related to accessibility for persons with disabilities within the Federal Public Service and Parliamentary Precinct.
 

The Subcommittee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: Accessibility for All.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and researchers be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities as the first report of the Subcommittee.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee request that the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities request that pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write a letter to the Speaker of the House regarding the absence of closed caption service in French.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write a letter to the Speaker of the House requesting that Committee rooms have at least one table which can accommodate a wheelchair.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair send a cheque for the remaining award money to Mr. David Hains, recipient of the 2004 Centennial Flame Research Award, with a letter of thanks for his research paper on behalf of the members of the Subcommittee.

 

At 4:46 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
