The Subcommittee on Public Safety and National Security of the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met in a televised session at 1:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Paul Zed, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Joe Comartin, Peter MacKay, Serge Ménard, Kevin Sorenson and Paul Zed.

 

Acting Members present: Derek Lee for Tom Wappel and John Maloney for Roy Cullen .

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Imagine Canada: Peter Broder, Corporate Counsel and Director, Regulatory Affairs. World Vision Canada: Kathy Vandergrift, Director of Policy. Canadian Civil Liberties Association: A. Alan Borovoy, General Counsel. Canadian Newspaper Association: David Gollob, Vice-President, Public Affairs. Canadian Association for Security and Intelligence Studies: Tony Campbell, Acting Executive Director. As an Individual: Craig Forcese, Law Professor, University of Ottawa.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of November 22, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the Anti-terrorism Act, Impact of the Anti-terrorism Act on Charitable Organizations.
 

Kathy Vandergrift and Peter Broder made opening statements and answered questions.

 

At 2:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:12 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of November 22, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the Anti-terrorism Act, Impact of s. 4 of the Security of Information Act.
 

A. Alan Borovoy, Tony Campbell, Craig Forcese and David Gollob made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:53 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
