The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in camera at 9:13 this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Pablo Rodriguez, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Françoise Boivin, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Odina Desrochers, Marc Godbout, Yvon Godin, Pablo Rodriguez and Raymond Simard.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 
Whereas funding to minority communities of official languages did not increase since 1992, it was agreed, — That the Chair send a letter to the Minister of the Canadian Heritage and a copy to the Minister of Finance to request that the funding of Canadian minority linguistic communities be increased.
 
It was agreed, — That the Committee study bilingualism in Public Service when the House resume in February.
 
It was ordered, — That the Clerk obtain a copy of the study made for Treasury Board and the Public Service Commission concerning the use of both official languages in the Public Service of Canada.
 
It was agreed, — That the Committee invite in early February the author of the study prepared for Treasury Board and the Public Service Commission concerning the use of both official languages within the Public Service of Canada.
 
It was agreed, — That with regard to its study on bilingualism in Public Service, the Committee invite Union representatives, the President of the Treasury Board, the President of the Public Service Commission and the President of the Human Resources Management Agency.
 
It was agreed, — That in order to meet linguistic minorities communities on site in relation with the government Action Plan on Official Languages and Part VII of the Official Languages Act, the Committee travel during the month of March, in the following regions : Whitehorse, Vancouver or Victoria, St-Boniface, Sudbury, Eastern Townships, Moncton and Windsor.
 

At 10:27 , the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
