The Standing Committee on Industry, Natural Resources, Science and Technology met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209 West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Serge Cardin, Michael Chong, Hon. Denis Coderre, Brian Masse, Hon. Jerry Pickard, Andy Savoy, Werner Schmidt, Brent St. Denis and Bradley R. Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Gérard Asselin for Paul Crête and James Rajotte for John Duncan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Analyst; Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Bar Association: Donald S. Affleck, Chair, National Competition Law Section; Tamra L. Thomson, Director, Legislation and Law Reform. Canadian Council of Chief Executives: John R. Dillon, Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs, and General Counsel. Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Michael Murphy, Senior Vice-President, Policy; Tim J. Kennish, Chair, Canadian Chamber Competition Law and Policy Task Force and Co-Chairman, Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt LLP.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Brian Masse moved, — That this Committee suspend hearings on Bill C-19 as of 5:30 p.m., December 2, 2004.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Gérard Asselin, Serge Cardin, Michael Chong, Brian Masse, James Rajotte, Werner Schmidt, Bradley R. Trost — 7; NAYS: Denis Coderre, Jerry Pickard, Andy Savoy — 3.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, November 16, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-19, An Act to amend the Competition Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
