The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Peter Adams, Hon. Eleni Bakopanos, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Barry Devolin, Raymonde Folco, Paul Forseth, Christiane Gagnon, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Todd Norman Russell and Peter Van Loan.

 

Acting Members present: France Bonsant for Christiane Gagnon.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Belinda Stronach, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development; Hon. Claudette Bradshaw, Minister of State (Human Resources Development).

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Alan Nymark, Deputy Minister; Maryantonett Flumian, Associate Deputy Minister. Service Canada: Donna Achimov, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Citizen and Community Service Branch. Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Sherry Harrison, Comptroller.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 29, 2005, the Committee commenced its study of the Government response to the Report An Examination of New Directives Governing Contribution Agreements for Selected Programs Delivered on Behalf of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2006: Votes 1a, 5a and 7a, under Human Resources and Skills Development referred to the Committee on October 27, 2005.
 

The Ministers made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:56 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:01 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of the draft report on the Summer Career Placement Program.

 

It was agreed, — That the final report (as amended) on the “Summer Career Placement Program” be adopted as the Tenth Report of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities

That the Clerk be authorized to make such editorial and typographical changes as necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

That the Chair be authorised to table the Report in the House

That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

 

At 1:09 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
