The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met by teleconference at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Peter Adams, Hon. Eleni Bakopanos, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Barry Devolin, Raymonde Folco, Paul Forseth, Christiane Gagnon, Ed Komarnicki, Tony Martin, Todd Norman Russell and Peter Van Loan.

Acting Members present: France Bonsant for Yves Lessard.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

Witnesses: Southern Labrador Development Association: Wayne Earle, Employment Counsellor, Employment Assistance Services. Statistics Canada: Rosemary Bender, Director, Social and Aboriginal Statistics; François Nault, Director, Culture, Tourism and Centre for Education Statistics; Peter Morrison, Director, Labour Statistics.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on September 29, 2005, the Committee resumed its study of the Summer Career Placement Program.

Wayne Earle made a statement and answered questions.

Rosemary Bender made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:53 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

At 1:09 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
