The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met by videoconference at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Eleni Bakopanos, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Barry Devolin, Raymonde Folco, Paul Forseth, Christiane Gagnon, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin and Peter Van Loan.

 

Other Members present: Jack Layton.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Hearing Society: Gary Malkowski, Vice-President, Consumer and Government and Corporate Relations; Monique Doolittle-Romas, Regional Director. Ontario Network of Employment Skills Training Project: Bernadette Beaupré, Executive Director; Minerva Hui, Board Member. Canadian CED Network: Rupert Downing, Executive Director; Eunice Grayson, Founding member. Canadian Coalition of Community Based Employability Training: Sandra Glass, Vice-Chair; Norma Strachan.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 24, 2005, the Committee resumed its study of the New Human Resources and Skills Development Canada call for proposals Criteria for Funding Community Programs.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

Tony Martin moved, — That the Committee write to Minister Lucienne Robillard asking for a letter of assurance that any person or organisation appearing before this Committee not be in jeopardy of losing their funding.

 

Unanimous consent required to waive the 48 hour notice to present this motion was denied.

 

It was agreed, — That April 5th and 7th 2005, the Canadian Coalition of Community-Based Employability Training, Les Oeuvres de la Maison Dauphine, the Centre d'assistance et d'accompagnement aux plaintes, plus two other Quebec organisations be invited to appear.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair verifiy with the Hon. Lucienne Robillard if she could appear April 12, 2005, before the Committee regarding the new Human Resources and Skills Development Canada Call for proposals Criteria for Funding Community Programs and at a later date on the Main Estimates.

 

At 1:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:20 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 1:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
