The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 2:30 p.m. this day, in the Battery Hotel & Suites, Riverhead/Pegasus Rooms, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Raynald Blais, Loyola Hearn, Randy Kamp, Gerald Keddy, Bill Matthews, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Scott Simms, Peter Stoffer and Tom Wappel.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As Individuals: Glenn Blackwood, Executive Director and CEO, Fisheries and Marine Institute, Memorial University of Newfoundland; Brad deYoung, Professor of Physics & Physical Oceanography, Memorial University of Newfoundland; Ransom A. Myers, Professor of Biology, Dalhousie University.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion agreed to by the Committee on February 8, 2005, the Committee resumed its study of the northern cod, including the events leading to the collapse of the fishery and the failure of the stock to re-establish itself since the moratorium.
 
Glenn Blackwood made a statement and answered questions.
 

At 3:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Ransom Myers made a statement and answered questions.
 

At 4:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:56 p.m., the sitting resumed.
