The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 5:47 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Anita Neville, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: France Bonsant, Paule Brunelle, Jean Crowder, Nina Grewal, Helena Guergis, Susan Kadis, Anita Neville, Paddy Torsney and Lynne Yelich.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: YWCA Canada: Darlene Bessey, President. Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs: Darla Campbell, President. MediaWatch: Melanie Cishecki, Executive Director. Association féminine d'éducation et d'action sociale: Hélène Cornellier, Coordinator of Action Plan and Communications. Women Entrepreneurs of Canada: Pirjo Friedman, President. Women with Vision Magazine: Lorraine Leslie, Founder / Publisher. Canadian Coalition of Women in Science, Engineering, Trades and Technology: Hiromi Matsui, Past President, Co-Chair, Working Group, Women in Science, Engineering, Trades & Technology. Women in Resource Development Inc.: Lorraine Michael, Executive Director. Canadian Federation of University Women: Susan Russell, Executive Director. Women's Community Economic Development Council: Joni Simpson, Member and Executive Director of Compagnie F entrepreneurship pour femmes.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Roundtables to explore the concerns of women's organizations and equality-seeking organizations.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 7:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:29 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 8:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
