NEWS RELEASE

E-consultation

Ottawa, October 21, 2005

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade today launched an online consultation as part of its study of Canada’s International Policy Statement: A Role of Pride and Influence in the World. The Committee’s ‘e-consultation’ is public and open to all Canadians. Online submissions will be accepted from Friday 21 October 2005 until December 2005.

The Committee has been conducting a review of the Government’s International Policy Statement, which was tabled in Parliament on 19 April 2005. It began public hearings in Ottawa in April 2005, and will be conducting hearings across Canada this fall. The input from these hearings and the e-consultation will contribute to the Committee’s final recommendations and report to Parliament.

The Committee is seeking the views of all Canadians on the issues raised in the International Policy Statement. The e-consultation invites Canadians to answer a range of questions concerning Canada’s international policies and priorities in a changing world. As Committee Chair Dr. Bernard Patry (Liberal, Pierrefonds-Dollard) noted, “We are more than interested in hearing from as many Canadians as possible during its work, and we believe that by allowing us to hear from people that might otherwise not communicate with the Committee, this e-consultation will strengthen our work.” The results from these responses will be made public with the Committee’s report to Parliament.

Canadians can complete the online questionnaire by visiting the Committee’s website, http://www.parl.gc.ca/faae-e.
