The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Marlene Catterall, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gord Brown, Sarmite Bulte, Marlene Catterall, Wajid Khan, Maka Kotto, Marc Lemay, Deepak Obhrai, Gary Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Merv Tweed.

 

Acting Members present: Bev Oda for Merv Tweed.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Joseph Jackson, Analyst; Sam Banks, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Raymond Chan, Minister of State (Multiculturalism).

 

Witnesses: Department of Canadian Heritage: Bruce Manion, Assistant Deputy Minister, Planning and Corporate Affairs; Eileen Sarkar, Assistant Deputy Minister, Citizenship and Heritage; Kristina Namiesniowski, Director General, Multiculturalism and Human Rights, Canadian Heritage; Jacques Paquette, Assistant Deputy Minister, International and intergovernmental Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(7), the Committee commenced consideration of the Report on Plans and Priorities 2004-2005 du ministère du Patrimoine canadien and Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Study on Performance Report for the period ending March 31, 2004.
 
The Minister made a statement and, with Bruce Manion answered questions.
 
By unanimous consent, the Committee agreed to change its schedule of meetings and to hold two meetings on Canada's position to Unesco on the preliminary draft of the Convention on the Protection of the Diversity of Cultural Contents and Artistic Expressions.
 

At 5:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
