The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met In Camera at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Marlene Catterall, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Gord Brown, Sarmite Bulte, Marlene Catterall, Maka Kotto, Marc Lemay, Bev Oda, Gary Schellenberger, Mario Silva, Scott Simms and David Smith.

 

Acting Members present: Rob Merrifield for Deepak Obhrai.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Joseph Jackson, Senior Analyst; Sam Banks, Analyst. As Individual: David Black, Consultant.

 

Witnesses: Department of Canadian Heritage: Judith A. LaRocque, Deputy Minister; Susan Peterson, Associate Deputy Minister; Bruce Manion, Assistant Deputy Minister, Planning and Corporate Affairs; Jacques Paquette, Assistant Deputy Minister, International and intergovernmental Affairs; Lyn Elliott Sherwood, Executive Director; Tom Scrimger, Director General, Sport Canada; Kristina Namiesniowski, Director General, Multiculturalism and Human Rights, Canadian Heritage.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to its study of the Canadian Feature Film Industry, the Committee approve the proposed contract budget in the amount of $35,940.00 for the period of April 1 to June 23, 2005 and that the Chair present the said budget request to Liaison Committee..

 

It was agreed, — That the Canadian Television Fund be invited to appear before the Committee with respect to its study on Canadian Feature Film Industry..

 

It was agreed, — That the committee report to the House of Commons requiring each entity involved in audit report on the Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Federal Government chapter 6, november 2003.(Canadian Heritage, Treasury Board Secretariat, Parks Canada Agency, Library and Archives Canada) report to the Committee on the development of a strategy and action plan, including timeframes in response to the Auditor General recommendations addressed to them..

 

At 9:23 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 9:26, the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced its briefing session on the Main Estimates 2005-2006: Vote 1, 5, L10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90 and 120 under Department of Canadian Heritage referred to the Committee on February 25, 2005.
 

Judy A. LaRocque and Bruce Manion made statements and with the witnesses answered questions.

 

At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
