The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 9:13 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Lloyd St. Amand, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sue Barnes, Bernard Cleary, Jeremy Harrison, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Pat Martin, Jim Prentice, Carol Skelton, Lloyd St. Amand and Roger Valley.

 

Acting Members present: Todd Norman Russell for David Smith.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Michel Roy, Assistant Deputy Minister, Claims and Indian Government; Audrey Stewart, Director General, Specific Claims Branch. Kashechewan First Nation: Leo Friday, Chief; Stan Louttit, Grand chef. As an Individual: Murray B. Trusler, Chief of Staff, Weeneebayko General Hospital.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 25, 2005, the Committee commenced its study on drinking water in First Nation Communities.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee hear from representatives of the Kashechewan First Nation.

 

The Chiefs made opening statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 9:18 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:22 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 4, 2005, the Committee commenced its study of First Nations Specific Claims.
 

Michel Roy and Audrey Stewart made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
