The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Odina Desrochers, Marlene Jennings, Hon. Joe Jordan, Hon. Walt Lastewka, Dominic LeBlanc, Dennis Mills, Alan Tonks, Judy Wasylycia-Leis and John Williams.

 

Acting Members present: Diane Ablonczy for Philip Mayfield, Bernard Bigras for Roger Gaudet, Hon. Wayne Easter for Hon. Steve Mahoney, Michel Gauthier for Roger Gaudet, Monique Guay for Odina Desrochers, Jason Kenney for Paul Forseth, Derek Lee for Beth Phinney, Judi Longfield for Hon. Shawn Murphy, Peter MacKay for Peter Goldring, Dennis Mills for Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Marcel Proulx for Hon. Steve Mahoney, Scott Reid for Peter Goldring and Vic Toews for Val Meredith.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 3, the Sponsorship Program, Chapter 4, Advertising Activities and Chapter 5, Management of Public Opinion Research of the November 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada referred to the Committee on February 10, 2004.
 

The witness answered questions.

 

At 11:16 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:22 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 12:25 p.m., Marlene Jennings took the Chair.

 

At 12:31 p.m., John Williams took the Chair.

 

Marlene Jennings moved, — That, pursuant to S.O. 108(3)(g), Chapter 3, the Sponsorship Program, Chapter 4, Advertising Activities and Chapter 5, Management of Public Opinion Research of the November 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada referred to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts on February 10, 2004, this Committee call the Auditor General of Canada to appear on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, the Honourable Alfonso Gagliano to appear on Thursday, April 29, 2004 and Mr. Ranald Quail to appear on Friday, April 30, 2004.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Marlene Jennings moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “Auditor General of Canada to appear on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, the Honourable Alfonso Gagliano to appear on Thursday, April 29, 2004 and Mr. Ranald Quail to appear on Friday, April 30, 2004” with the words “Mr. Ranald Quail to appear on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 and on Thursday, April 29, 2004, a witness to be determined to appear on Thursday, April 28, 2004 and the Auditor General of Canada to appear on Monday, May 3, 2004”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Marlene Jennings and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Marlene Jennings, Joe Jordan, Walt Lastewka, Dominic LeBlanc, Derek Lee, Judi Longfield, Dennis Mills, Marcel Proulx, Alan Tonks — 9; NAYS: Diane Ablonczy, Bernard Bigras, Monique Guay, Jason Kenney, Scott Reid, Vic Toews, Judy Wasylycia-Leis — 7.

 

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
