The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Brenda Chamberlain, Paul Forseth, Roger Gaudet, Robert Lanctôt, Anita Neville, Gilles-A. Perron, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo, Tony Tirabassi and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Don Boudria for Joe Jordan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an Individual: C. E.S. Franks, Professor Emeritus of Political Science, Queen's University.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 24, 2004, the Committee resumed its study and review of the budget and estimates of the Office of the Governor General .
 

C.E.S. Franks made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 10:23 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:30 a.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

 
It was agreed, --that the Chair write to Mr. Scott Serson, former President of the Public Service Commission, in order to respond to his letter.
 
It was agreed, --That the Committee write to the Government House Leader and ask for an indication of when the appointment of the President of the Public Service Commission would be referred to the Committee.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 39, the Committee considered unanwered question Q-9 on the Order Paper and agreed that the Chair would write to the House Leader and the Departments in default and request that they indicate the nature of the problem leading to the delay, and indicate when this question might be answered.
 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
