The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon Benoit, Paul Forseth, Roger Gaudet, Robert Lanctôt, Anita Neville, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo, Tony Tirabassi and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Monique Guay for Gilles-A. Perron.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Newspaper Association: Anne Kothawala, President and Chief Executive Officer. Ad IDEM (Advocates in Defence of Expression in the Media): Marc-André Blanchard, President; Daniel Henry, Past President. Syndicat des communications de Radio-Canada: Daniel Raunet, President. Fédération nationale des communications: Chantal Larouche, President; Éric Lévesque, Counsel. Canadian Media Guild: Lise Lareau, National President. Canadian Association of Mounted Police: Gaétan Delisle, President of the "Association des membres de la police montée du Québec Inc."; André Girard, Secretary Treasurer of the "Association des membres de la police montée du Québec Inc.".

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, April 20, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-25, An Act to establish a procedure for the disclosure of wrongdoings in the public sector, including the protection of persons who disclose the wrongdoings.
 

Anne Kothawala made a statement.
