The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Building, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, John Cummins, Bill Matthews, Jean-Yves Roy, Gary Schellenberger, Paul Steckle, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel and Bob Wood.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst; Alan Nixon, Principal.

 

The Chair presented the First Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

Your Subcommittee met on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 and agreed to make the following recommendations:

That the Committee resume from the previous session its comprehensive study on the Canadian Coast Guard;

That the evidence received by the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans in relation to its comprehensive study on the Canadian Coast Guard during the 2nd Session of the 37th Parliament be deemed to have been heard by the Committee in the current session;

That the Committee hold a briefing with officials from the Office of the Auditor General at the beginning of its study of the Main Estimates;

That the Minister and senior officials be invited to appear before the Committee with regard to the Main Estimates in late March; and,

That the Chair be authorized to write a letter to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans with regard to funding for a wild Atlantic salmon endowment fund.

It was agreed, -- That the first report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be concurred in.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed from the previous session its comprehensive study on the Canadian Coast Guard.
 

The Committee received a briefing from the Library of Parliament analysts.

 

At 12:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
