Meeting No. 16

Monday, March 24, 2003

The Standing Committee on Transport met in camera at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Joe Comuzzi, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Rex Barnes, Joe Comuzzi, Bev Desjarlais, Roger Gallaway, Jim Gouk, Ovid Jackson, Stan Keyes, Mario Laframboise, James Moore, Marcel Proulx.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  John Christopher, Principal Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study of the subject matter of Bill C-26, An Act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act, to enact the VIA Rail Canada Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

It was agreed, - That the Chair, the two Vice-Chairs, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, the Researcher and the Clerk of the Committee hold a meeting next Wednesday, March 26, 2003, to dress-up a list of the different cities in which the Committee should hold hearings in relation to the study of Bill C-26, An Act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act, to enact the VIA Rail Canada Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

At 4:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
