The Standing Committee on Transport met in a televised session at 11:13 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Joe Comuzzi, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present:. Roger Gallaway, Stan Keyes, Mario Laframboise, Marcel Proulx.

Acting Member present:  Claude Bachand for Robert Lanctôt;  Paul Crête for Robert Lanctôt.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  John Christopher, Principal Analyst.

Witness(es): From the "Conseil économique du Haut-Richelieu": Christian Perreault, Executive Director. From the City of Saint-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu: Yvan Berthelot, "conseiller municipal", Chair - Highway 35 Committee.  From the “Club d’exportation du Haut-Richelieu”:  Lucie Dandenault, General Director and “Commissaire à l’exportation”.  From the "Municipalité régionale du Comté de Témiscouata": Serge Fortin, "préfet". From the City of Edmundston: Jacques Martin, Mayor. From the "Chambre de commerce de la Municipalité régionale du Comté de Rivière-du-Loup": Étienne Charron, First Vice-President, Chair, Transport Committee. From the City of Dégelis: Émilien Nadeau, Mayor.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and its Orders of Reference of February 3, and 17, 2003 (See Minutes of proceedings), the Committee resumed the examination of the issue of highway infrastructures across Canada.

Yvan Berthelot, Lucie Dandenault and Christian Perreault made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:12 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Serge Fortin, Jacques Martin, Étienne Charron and Émilien Nadeau made opening statements and answered questions.

At 1:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
