Meeting No. 2

Wednesday, February 12, 2003

The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Bob Wood, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Roy Bailey, Bill Blaikie, Ivan Grose, Dan McTeague, Louis Plamondon, Carmen Provenzano, Rose-Marie Ur, Elsie Wayne, Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

The Subcommittee considered its future business.

It was agreed, ― That, in relation to its study on Long–Term Care for Veterans, the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs be authorized to retain the professional services of Mr. Barry Hamilton, as a consultant for the Subcommittee, for the period of April 1st, 2003, to June 30, 2003, at a cost of $535. per day, for 20 days, for a total amount of $10,700, and that, in relation to its study on Long-Term Care for Veterans,  the proposed operational budget in the amount of $26,305. be adopted by the Subcommittee.

It was agreed, ― That, in relation to its study on Long–Term Care for Veterans, the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs be authorized to travel to Eastern Canada from March 31 to April 4, 2003, with the necessary staff, and that the proposed budget in the amount of $66,848.50 be adopted for the Subcommittee’s travel.

It was agreed, ― That the Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Hon. Rey Pagtakhan, be invited to appear before the Subcommittee on February 19 or 26, 2003.

It was also agreed to meet with the Royal Canadian Legion at the Legion House, on March 26, 2003 or to invite its representatives to appear before the Subcommittee.

At 4:05 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
