The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Odina Desrochers, Paul Forseth, Christian Jobin, Philip Mayfield, Shawn Murphy, Beth Phinney, Judy Sgro and John Williams.

 

Acting Members present: Gilbert Barrette for John Finlay, John Bryden for Joe Peschisolido, Raymonde Folco for Tony Tirabassi, Gerald Keddy for Greg Thompson, Robert Lanctôt for Odina Desrochers, Robert Lanctôt for Roger Gaudet, Derek Lee for Colleen Beaumier, Pat Martin for Judy Wasylycia-Leis and Alex Shepherd for Jim Peterson.

 

Associate Members present: Gerald Keddy, Robert Lanctôt and Pat Martin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean Dupuis, Analyst; Brian O'Neal, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Hugh McRoberts, Assistant Auditor General; Kathryn Elliott, Principal. Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: Robert Marleau, Interim Privacy Commissioner.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee commenced consideration of the Special Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Audit of the financial management and administration of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada) of September 2003.
 

Sheila Fraser and Robert Marleau made statements and answered questions.

 
At 10:20 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2003-2004: Vote 20a Auditor General, under Finance referred to the Committee on September 23, 2003.
 

Sheila Fraser made a statement and answered questions.

 
It was agreed, - That Vote 20a - Auditor General under Finance carry.
 
It was agreed, - That the Chair report Vote 20a - Auditor General under Finance, as carried, to the House.
 

At 10:54 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:56 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
It was agreed, - That the Secretary of the Treasury Board, th ePresident of the Public Service Commission, a senior official of the Privy Council Office and the Information Commissioner be invited to appear before the Committee with respect to the Report on the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
 
It was agreed, - That George Radwanski, the former Privacy Commissioner of Canada, be afforded an opportunity to make a statement before the Committee with respect to the Report of the Auditor General on the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
 

At 11:29 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
