Monday, June 9, 2003

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Paul Forseth, Roger Gaudet, Mac Harb, Val Meredith, Beth Phinney, Tony Tirabassi and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Analysts.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Kathryn Elliott, Principal. From the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat: James Lahey, Associate Secretary, Human Resources Reform; Richard Burton, Assistant Secretary, Human Resources Management Office, Organization and Classification; Hélène Laurendeau, Assistant Secretary, Human Resources Management Office, Risk Management.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee commenced consideration of Chapter 6 (Reform of Classification and Job Evaluation in the Federal Public Service) of the May 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

Sheila Fraser and James Lahey made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:08 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
