Meeting No. 47

Tuesday, June 3, 2003

The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 4:25 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Reg Alcock, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Carolyn Bennett, Ken Epp, Paul Forseth, Robert Lanctôt, Judy Sgro, Paul Szabo and Tony Tirabassi.

Acting Members present: Maria Minna for Roy Cullen.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jack Stilborn, Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada: John M. Reid, Information Commissioner of Canada; J. Alan Leadbeater, Deputy Information Commissioner of Canada; Dan Dupuis, Director General, Investigations and Reviews.

The Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

It was agreed, -- That the Privacy Commissioner, George Radwanski, be called to appear before the Committee on Monday, June 9, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. to explain the discrepancies between the two versions of the letter (Radwanski – Rosenberg) dated August 2, 2002, and other related issues.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee receive the United Kingdom’s House of Common Parliamentary Select Committee Monday, June 10, 2003 at 10:15 a.m., and that the Committee host a small reception in their honour.

At 4:40 p.m. the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), The Committee commenced consideration of a Review of the Access to Information Act.

John Reid made an opening statement and, with Dan Dupuis and Alan Leadbeater, answered questions.

 At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
