The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, The Hon. Andy Scott, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Chuck Cadman, The Hon. Hedy Fry, Derek Lee, Paul Harold Macklin, John Maloney, Richard Marceau, John McKay, Pat O'Brien, The Hon. Andy Scott, Kevin Sorenson, Vic Toews.
Acting Members present: Réal Ménard for Robert Lanctôt, Svend Robinson for The Hon. Lorne Nystrom.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, senior analyst, Kristen Douglas, analyst.
Witnesses: From the United Church of Canada: Choice U. Okoro, Program Officer, Human Rights & Reconciliation Initiatives; Alison Huntley, Researcher. From the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops: Msgr. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on marriage and the legal recognition of same-sex unions.
The witnesses made a statement and answered questions.
