The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 9:15 a.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Paul Crête, Cheryl Gallant, Walt Lastewka, Brian Masse, Gilbert Normand, James Rajotte and Brent St. Denis.

 

Acting Members present: Sue Barnes for Paddy Torsney, Rick Borotsik for André Bachand, James Lunney for Brian Fitzpatrick, Paul Harold Macklin for Serge Marcil, Geoff Regan for Andy Savoy, Jacques Saada for Dan McTeague and Paul Steckle for Joseph Volpe.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Gilbert Normand, it was agreed, — That Walt Lastewka be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

 

On motion of Cheryl Gallant, it was agreed, — That James Rajotte be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Larry Bagnell moved, — That Dan McTeague be elected as Government Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Gilbert Normand moved, — That Brent St-Denis be elected as Government Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the election was conducted by secret ballot.

The ballots having been counted, Dan McTeague was declared duly elected, in absentia, as Government Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Walt Lastewka took the Chair.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to the consideration of future business and establish a tentative calendar of meetings.

 

At 9:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
