Meeting No. 54

Wednesday, June 11, 2003

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: André Bachand, Larry Bagnell, Paul Crête, Brian Fitzpatrick, Walt Lastewka, Serge Marcil, Brian Masse, Dan McTeague, Hon. Gilbert Normand, James Rajotte, Andy Savoy, Brent St. Denis and Joseph Volpe.

Acting Members present: Colleen Beaumier for Paddy Torsney, Rob Merrifield for Cheryl Gallant and Dave Chatters for Cheryl Gallant.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya; Geoffrey P. Kieley and Dan Shaw, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the Automatic Injunction Provisions in the Patented Medicine (Notice of Compliance) Regulations of the Patent Act.

It was agreed, -- That the Research Officers write a summary of evidence heard during meetings 49 to 52.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the Potential Economic Impact on Canadian Industry of Implementing the Kyoto Protocol.

It was agreed, -- That the Research Officers write a summary of evidence heard during meetings 8 to 11.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee proceed to a periodic monitoring of the potential economic impact on the Canadian Industry from the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the Causes of the Recent Increase in the Price of Gasoline and the Significant Negative Effects that the Increase is having on the Economy, and can Recommend Appropriate Corrective Measures to the Federal Government.

It was agreed, -- That the Research Officers write an issues and options paper on this subject.

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
