The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Paul Crête, Brian Fitzpatrick, Cheryl Gallant, Walt Lastewka, Serge Marcil, Dan McTeague, The Hon. Gilbert Normand, James Rajotte, Brent St. Denis and Paddy Torsney.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Geoffrey P. Kieley and Dan Shaw, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the "Association des Compagnies de Téléphone du Québec inc.": Serge Désy, General Manager; Jean-François Hébert, General Counsel. From TELUS Corporation: James W. Peters, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and General Counsel. From the University of Toronto: Prof. Hudson Janisch, Professor, Faculty of Law.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of Foreign Investment Restrictions Applicable to Telecommunications Common Carriers.

Jean-François Hébert made an opening statement and, with Serge Désy answered questions.

Hudson Janisch made an opening statement and answered questions.

James Peters made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
