The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 3:44 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Libby Davies, John Finlay, Ovid Jackson, Judi Longfield, Raymond Simard, Monte Solberg and Larry Spencer.

Acting Member present: Sébastien Gagnon for Suzanne Tremblay.

Other Member present: Yolande Thibeault.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin and Kevin Kerr, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Human Resources Development: Thomas Townsend, Director General, Applied Research; Sonia L'Heureux, Acting Director General, Social Policy. As Individual: Richard Shillington. From the Canadian Council on Social Development: John Anderson, Vice-President, Research. From the Centre for Equality Rights in Accomodation: Sherrie Tingley, Acting Executive Director. From the Fraser Institute: Christopher Sarlo, Professor. From the National Anti-Poverty Organization: Linda Lalonde, President. From the National Council of Welfare: David Welch, Professor.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), briefing session on Market Basket Measures.

Thomas Townsend, Richard Shillington, John Anderson, Sherrie Tingley, Christopher Sarlo, Linda Lalonde and David Welch made a statement and with the other witness answered questions.

At 6:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
