The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:23 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Peter Goldring, Monique Guay, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Raymond Simard and Diane St-Jacques.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin and Kevin Kerr, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Alpha Plus: Ellen Long, Senior Researcher. From the Association of Canadian Community Colleges: Gerald Brown, President. From the Prior Learning Assessment Center, Halifax: Doug Myers, Executive Director. From the Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment: Bonnie Kennedy, A/Executive Director. From the Canadian Library Association: Madeleine Lefebvre, Vice-President; Don Butcher, Executive Director. From the National Coalition of Community Based Training: Bernadette Beaupré, Co-Chair.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Literacy.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
