The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 8:09 a.m. this day, in Guild Hall, Holiday Inn Select Halifax Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reed Elley, Jean-Yves Roy, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel, Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: François Côté, research officer.

Witnesses: From the Bay of Fundy Inshore Fishermen's Association: Arthur Bull, Coordinator. From the Guysborough County Inshore Fishermen's Association: Patricia Rhynold, Manager. From the Coastal Communities Network: Scott Milsom, Communications Officer. From the LFA 34 Lobster Committee: Ashton Spinney, Chair. From the Sierra Club of Canada: Mark Dittrick, Conservation Chair, Atlantic Canada Chapter. As an individual: Debbie MacKenzie. From the Partnership for Sustainable Development of Digby Neck and Islands Society: Ashraf Mahtab, Chair, Legal Committee; Carol Mahtab, Secretary. From the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia: John MacDonell, Fisheries Critic, New Democratic Party.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Atlantic Fisheries Issues (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, May 6, 2003, Meeting No. 32).

Arthur Ball and Patricia Rhynold made presentations and answered questions.

Scott Milsom and Ashton Spinney made presentations and answered questions.

Mark Dittrick made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:57 a.m., Jean-Yves Roy took the Chair.

At 10:01 a.m., Tom Wappel took the Chair.

Debbie MacKenzie made a statement and answered questions.

Carol Mahtab and Ashraf Mahtab made a statement and, with Mark Dittrick, answered questions.

At 11:00 a.m., Peter Stoffer took the Chair.

At 11:03 a.m., Tom Wappel took the Chair.

John MacDonell made a presentation and answered questions.

At 11:33 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
