Thursday, October 24, 2002

The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Rahim Jaffer, Sophia Leung, The Hon. Maria Minna, Tony Valeri, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Members present: Massino Pacetti for Gary Pillitteri, Shawn Murphy for Joe McGuire.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal Analyste; Blayne Haggart and Marc-André Pigeon, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Voluntary Sector Forum: Laurie Rektor; Shauna Sylvester, Member. From the Canadian National Institute for the Blind: Cathy Moore, National Coordinator of Career Development and Employment Services; Fran Cutler, National Chair. From the Philanthropic Foundations Canada: Hilary Pearson, President and CEO. From the Community Foundations of Canada: Monica Patten, President and C.E.O.. From the Canadian Conference of the Arts: Philippa Borgal, Associate Director; Megan Williams, National Director. From the Canadian Library Association: Don Butcher, Executive Director; Leacy O'Callaghan - O'Brien, Communication Director, Canadian National Site Licensing Project.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83(1), the Committee continued its pre-budget discussions.

Laurie Rektor, Cathy Moore, Hilary Pearson, Monica Patten Megan Williams and Dan Butcher made opening statements and with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
