The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Sarkis Assadourian, John Bryden, Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Raymonde Folco, Joe Fontana, Art Hanger, Sophia Leung, Pat Martin, John O'Reilly, Massimo Pacetti, Jerry Pickard and Yves Rocheleau.

 

Acting Members present: Grant Hill for Grant McNally.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst. House of Commons: Jeremy LeBlanc, Committee Clerk.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

Massimo Pacetti moved, — That Joe Fontana be elected Chair of the Committee.

John Bryden moved, — That John O'Reilly be elected Chair of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the election was conducted by secret ballot.

The ballots having been counted, Joe Fontana was declared duly elected Chair.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Government Vice-Chair.

Raymonde Folco moved, — That Sophia Leung be elected as Goverment Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Joe Fontana moved, — That Jerry Pickard be elected as Goverment Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the election was conducted by secret ballot.

The ballots having been counted, Jerry Pickard was declared duly elected as Goverment Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Opposition Vice-Chair.

Pat Martin moved, — That Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Art Hanger moved, — That Diane Ablonczy be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the election was conducted by secret ballot.

The ballots having been counted, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral was declared duly elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

At 3:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

By unanimous consent at 3:52 pm., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera to discuss their interim draft report on a National I.D. Card in Canada.

 

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
