Meeting No. 3

Thursday, December 5, 2002

The Legislative Committee on Bill C-17 met in a televised session at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Bob Kilger, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:  Sarkis Assadourian, Claude Bachand, Rex Barnes, Robert Bertrand, Garry Britkreuz, Bev Desjarlais, Bob Kilger, Steve Mahoney, Lynn Myers, John O'Reilly, Beth Phinney, Kevin Sorensen.

Other Members present: Reg Alcock, Derek Lee.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: David R. Goetz and Margaret Young, Analysts.

Appearing:  The Hon. Wayne Easter, Solicitor General of Canada.

Witnesses:  From the Department of the Solicitor General:  Nicole Jauvin, Deputy Solicitor General;  Patricia J. Hassard, Acting Assistant Deputy Solicitor General, Policing and Law Enforcement.  From the Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Giuliano Zaccardelli, Commissioner. From the Canadian Security Intelligence Service: Ward P. Elcock, Director.

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-17, Public Safety Act 2002.

The Minister made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 9:20 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:24 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 10:09 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
