Meeting No. 14

Tuesday, February 11, 2003

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Gérard Binet, Rick Borotsik, Claude Duplain, Mark Eyking, Marcel Gagnon, Howard Hilstrom, John Maloney, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Member present: Carol Skelton for Gary Breitkreuz.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Analyst and Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Department of Agriculture and Food of Manitoba: Dr. Allan Preston, Director, Veterinary Services. From the Manitoba Cattle Producers Association: Garth Routledge. As Individuals: John Whitaker; Ray Armbruster.

The Committee considered their draft budgets.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, - That the proposed operational budget of the Committee in the amount of $8,700.00 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, - That the proposed operational budget of the Committee in the amount of $13,200.00 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the occurrence of tuberculosis in the elk and deer herds in Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba.

Dr. Allan Preston, Garth Routledge, John Whitaker and Ray Armbruster made opening statements and answered questions.

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
