Meeting No. 12

Thursday, December 5, 2002

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Raymond Bonin, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Binet, Raymond Bonin, John Finlay, John Godfrey, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Yvan Loubier, Inky Mark, Benoît Serré, Brent St. Denis and Maurice Vellacott.

Acting Member present: Larry Bagnell for Anita Neville.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Carol Hilling and Monique Hébert, Analysts.

Witnesses: From the Yukon Chamber of Commerce: Sandy Babcock, Executive Director; Robert L. McIntyre, Treasurer. From the Yukon Chamber of Mines: Mike Power, President. From the Klondike Placer Miners' Association: Tara Christie, President; Ann Ledwidge, Director. From the Yukon Conservation Society: Chuck Birchall, Legal Counsel; Christine Cleghorn, Executive Director.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Thursday, October 3, 2002, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-2, An Act to establish a process for assessing the environmental and socio-economic effects of certain activities in Yukon (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, December 3, 2002, Meeting No. 9).

Sandy Babcock, Mike Power and Ann Ledwidge each made an opening statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:38 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:39 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Christine Cleghorn made an opening statement, and, with the witness, answered questions.

It was agreed, by a show of hands, that,-- That the Committee begin the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-2 at 3:30 p.m. this day.
